Shine Workshop Guest Mentors

I am very blessed to have three AMAZING friends who will be my Guest Mentors at the Shine Workshop in November. So if you have already signed up for the workshop (just a few spaces left) let me introduce you to the brilliant Women who will be sharing ideas, inspiration and their talents with you!

 Debbie Dusenberry/aka

Kansas City native Debbie Dusenberry began her stylish career in 1980 as a well respected makeup artist and photo stylist. In September of 2000, ready for her third career, Debbie opened Curious Sofa, a retail boutique. With an eye for buying and an unorthodox way of display, Debbie led Curious Sofa to be one of the nations top small retailers and a destination shop for customers from across the country. For ten successful years Curious Sofa and Debbie’s home were featured by many national, trade and local publications which led to a strong following on the shop’s website, blog and Facebook. In January of 2011, Dusenberry closed her brick and mortar store to focus on internet sales, freelance styling and graphic design. With a love for all things visual, Debbie is a master when it comes to branding an idea, talent or business which she has developed from her history in commercial art, photography, film, TV, display, special events, promotion, and social media.
 Amy Barickman/

Karla Nathan/ Karla’s Cottage

Karla Nathan’s art has had major shifts over the years ~ beginning as a water colorist focusing on florals and portraits and then traveling the country as a muralist and painting hotels, day care centers and private homes. However, she was always drawn to a more vintage style and soon she was transferring her painting from walls to old furniture which blossomed into a thriving antique business in her home. While at auctions buying furniture, she found herself attracted to boxes of crumbled ephemera, soft petals of millinery, tubs of yellowed linens, delicate lace and other vintage lovelies and began doing collage and assemblage work with these fragile items.

No matter what medium has intrigued Karla throughout her lifetime, she’s always had the same aesthetics and “pretty” was her goal. She will always be drawn to the look of flowers and all things pretty. Karla’s work has been featured in over 50 publications from Better Homes and Gardens Paint Decor and Romantic Homes to many of the Somerset magazines. She lives in Lawrence, Kansas with her husband and darling Yorky pups in a home surrounded by her trademark style and paintings.  You can read more about Karla by following her Blog. for Shine Workshop Registration

Embellished Vintage Glass Bottle Tutorial

Toffee colored satin ribbon tied around a place setting of dishes & Vintage pharmacy bottles embellished with lace, glass glitter and jewels.

Vintage Glass Bottles
Lace-long enough to wrap around bottle
Fine Glitter (I like the Martha Stewart brand sold at Michaels)
Embellishments-Buttons, Jewelry, Fabric or Paper
Tacky White Glue
Clear Spray On Adhesive
Zip Dry Adhesive

1. Wash bottles to remove any dirt or grime and dry.
2. Take lace trim and lightly spritz with water. Apply tacky glue to backside of lace and set aside.
3. Apply a thin layer of tacky glue around the bottle where the lace will be.
4. Wrap the lace around the diameter of the bottle and pat firmly down.
5. Spray clear glue to top edge of bottle and any other area you want glitter added.
6. Sprinkle glitter on the bottle and let dry overnight.
7. Add trim embellishment to the front of the bottle using Zip Dry adhesive to secure in place.

These are one of my signature props for tabletop displays at celebrations and events. They make a beautiful but simple statement when grouped together plus very budget friendly to create!

In other news~

I’m working on planning a WORKSHOP at my farmhouse for CREATIVES. Hopefully the end of November but will update you in a few days with details:)

Keep Shining~

  • Carol Spinski - Oh Thanks Sheila! I just went out and bought more bottles for Workshop gifties:) Blessings, Carol

  • Sheila R - Stunning bottles… definitely going to give this a try! Thanks for sharing and can’t wait to hear more above your workshop for Creatives!!!
