Decorating With White Tulips

Like many of you trying to deal with this snowy winter, I’ve had a bit of cabin fever of late. Not that this is such a bad view out my back door but…….

I’m over the ice and snow for one season! Needing some spring I went out yesterday looking for bunches of white tulips to fill my mason jars and place around the farmhouse. I found the tulips at Walmart for $5.00 a bunch and bought a few for my little dose of Spring medicine.

A little self medicating with white tulips is a wonderful cure for cabin fever don’t you think?

And~

*I‘m honored to be a guest curator over at Crescendoh this week~ I wrote this article in honor of my Mom~

Holding Art’s Hands

As I sat by my mom’s hospice bed that day holding tight to her hands, I watched every last breath that she took. In those final hours, I was overwhelmed with the sense of pride I felt to call this gracious woman my mom. Those sweet hands I was holding had taught me that crafting a beautiful life was something to be embraced and shared. Never idle, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of antiquing, baking, cooking, decorating, gardening and quilting— many of which is the legacy she passed on to me. My passion for photography and styling can be attributed to my mom’s inspirational guidance. Producing and capturing images of creativity will forever be my lasting “Thank You” to my mom, Stella Mae.

I love the way you tucked the leaves in! They almost look like ribbons! I’ll definitely have to remember that for the future. And I need to get myself some colored canning jars. They seem to be all the rage these days.

    Lovely images : )

So sorry for your loss. I have been there twice in my life and it truly was the best and the worst of times. I hope that knowing you were there with her while her sun set is soothing to your heart as it was to mine.

What a lovely tribute to your mom. Soon I will be holding my mom’s hand and trying to be strong as she embarks on a new journey–her last journey.

My favorite flower is the tulip, probably because it is a great herald of spring. Yours are so pretty in the Mason jars. I’m going to copy this idea.

    Thanks for the lovely photos.

    Hi Carol,

Those tuplip arrangements are so beautiful!! Just love them and the jars really put them over the top. I can’t tell you how touched I was with your tribute to your mom. Your words were just sooooo incredibly beautiful!! She must be so proud to have a daughter like you who has soaked up everything she gave you. As my mothere ages, I hope I can be as gracious. Love your photos, and I am so excited to be coming to Bird Song and learning how to make your cute tree and all the other projects. I live in Topeka, so it is a really opportunity to meet some of “my people” as I call the blog world. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!!

What simple, but lovely arrangements. I think you can put anything in a blue canning jar and make it beautiful. Those tulips are a perfect compliment.
*sigh* I think we are all in need of a bit of spring right about now.
What a lovely tribute to your mother.

Carol, I love what you did with the leaves, looping them back into the jars. Very elegant display! I may have to go find some white tulips. Thought that’s what I planted, or that’s what the nursery said they were. Turned out to be yellow daffodils!

    Dear Carol,
The article you wrote in honor of your mom ‘Stella Mae’ deeply touched my heart. She sounds like she was a beautiful woman and mother. The tulip arrangements you created definitely is a great dose of spring medicine. This week, I also was in great need of this same medicine. That is why I will share this message with you. Yesterday my very own mother who’s name is ‘Vicki Thomas’ sent me a beautiful flower arrangement called ‘The Birds Nest’ that was also a tribute to spring. It is full of tulips, the same pink flowers you used in your arrangement, some moss, daisies and pink carnations. It also had twigs woven through it with yellow flowers. Some birds eggs, a butterfly and a bird. All of this placed inside a beautiful piece of light green pottery. I wanted to share all the detail of it because I know if your mother could send you this same arrangement she would along with the message that my mother sent to me. The card read, THINKING OF YOU. PUT SOME SPRING IN YOUR HEART! LOVE MOM. I would love to SHARE my moms message with you on behalf of your mother. I will raise a tulip up to the heavens and say, To ‘Stella Mae’, enjoying simple pleasures!

Oh, the flowers are just so beautiful and simple, too in their gorgeous vintage jars! I had a chance last summer to buy a whole boxful of those jars (priced individually!) and have been kicking myself for not offering her a price for the whole box! You have a gift for photography that just keeps getting better and better.

    Carol,

What a lovely arrangement! I adore white tulips and was able to score a dozen for $5 last month, which made me absolutely giddy. I have several of these old Ball jars sitting around empty that are now calling for white tulips. Thank you for the inspiration. 🙂
