A Special Place To Start The Day

Finally a little sunshine streaming through the windows! This is one of my favorite places in the farmhouse to sit and drink my morning coffee because I can see the sun when it first comes up over the horizon.  I am sure I have probably mentioned to you in the past that one of the main attractions when we found the farmhouse was how bright the interior was from the many tall windows. Finding just the right chair to place by the window so I could take advantage of the sunshine and start my day proved to be quite the challenge.  I wanted a chair that had a modern edge but timeless feel. Nothing that I looked at ever seemed right until I found a slipper styled version with beautiful tapestry upholstery at Pier 1. It was one of those, “right place at the right time” as the store had just put it out on the floor.  Bingo, it came home with me!

In decorating the mantel for Spring, I used a combination of glass and a large mirror to take advantage of the reflection from the sunshine.  Deb gifted me with a lovely vintage frame that I used to layer over the old mirror for the center of the mantel.  I kept the mantel fresh and light with the addition of glass cylinders filled with cherry blossom branches and mercury glass candlesticks.

My special place to start the day!

Tell me about the special place in your home where you start the day. I would love to know!

*Also, I’m back to edit this post! Check out Kim’s Blog HERE and see her take after reading my post on dyeing thrift store linens~The blue she used to freshen up a pair of pillowcases is AMAZING!!! Thanks Kim!

Love the colors of your fireplace. Would you mind sharing the names of the colors of paint you used and also the name brand? Many thanks. I have a rock fireplace (ceiling to floor) and so tired of its dark presentation. Not sure how to brighten it up.

Hi Edna, Thank You so much for asking about the paint color. It is called “Honey Wind” from http://www.californiapaints.com. I’m not sure it is still available as I think it was in one of their special collections. Maybe you can check with the company. Blessings, Carol

I would love to start my day in a sunny, beautiful space like yours! On non-work days, I start my day in my living room with my coffee and laptop. Unfortunately, I just have two standard sized windows and a view of my next-door neighbor’s house!

Love your space and yes I remember when you tweeted about that cute little chair. I love where you placed it. I don’t have a space but what I usually do is go to my formal dining area with my laptop to read all the blogs I don’t get to read during the week.

“see the sun when it first comes up over the horizon” ?????

    Are you kidding me???

About the only time I see the sun come up is when I am still awake from the day before….

I just don’t do very well in the morning.

I basically start the day standing in the kitchen all bleary-eyed and wondering where I am.

But maybe if I had such a nice spot to sit, I might do better….. 😉

When my daughter moved out I turned her bedroom into a room of my own. I purchased an old french table with a parquet top as a desk and a french bergere chair both at a consignment shop for a song along with a cherry office credenza with glass door bookcases ugly- my husband is a faux finisher he has worked miracles on these pieces all in grays. It is my special place to start out the day I have a view of the backyard which is full of birds and presently yellow irises. I love being up by myself for an hour to greet the morning it is priceless.

On another note I just cleaned out the linen closet last night and found some treasures waiting for a new lease on life will share with you as soon as I get them dyed what a fantastic idea Carol love yours and Kim’s. I going for a pale lavender wish me luck.

I love you special place. Mine is right off our LR. I have bookshelves on three sides for all the dishes I collect, plus all the books I have. My piano and the tv are in there as well as mine and hubby’s loveseat. We have our coffee there every morning before we go to work and we hold hands and watch the weather channel together. And with all this stormy weather, there’s been plenty to watch!

What a beautiful bright spot to start and end the day. I love how the room is rustic yet elegant…the perfect mix for a farmhouse. just lovely!
I have a rocking chair in the corner of the kitchen where I sit with my morning tea … I put a birdbath right outside the window so it’s always my favorite time whenthe birds come to play.

I, too, love a light-filled place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. I take a bit of time for me…reading, checking email and FB. My favorite place is our refreshed sleeping porch on the second level of our vintage farm house. From that local, I can see for miles, as I look out over our gently rolling farm fields. If I’m really lucky, there will be birds at the feeders and deer in the fields.

What a beautiful way to start the day! My spot is a wicker rocker in a light-filled corner much like yours, with large windows on both sides. When we repainted the room last fall I decided to leave the windows completed untreated, so it feels like I’m sitting outside 🙂

May I ask, did you paint the frame around your fireplace or was it already that creamy color? Ours is black metal (yuck), would love to paint it white but am not sure if that’s possible given the heat it bears…

Thanks for sharing your lovely spring mantel!

      For Laura,
You can get heat resistant paint. We used some on a fireplace insert and it was wonderful!

      Hi Laura~

When we bought the farmhouse that fireplace was indeed black and stuck out like a sore thumb! We used the heat resistant paint and matched the same shade and repainted it. The change was amazing and blends in much better with the room.

Carol, your morning coffee spot looks so inviting. I too have a great view out of the windows in my living room. I like to sit in my oversized leather chair and drink hot tea and reflect on God’s beauty he has put outside my windows. The acreage across the street provides a safe haven for all the little creatures. We have squirrels, a pair of hawks, deer, ducks, and all kinds of birds. Your blog is an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing.
