Deconstructed Furniture

The other day I received the always anticipated Restoration Hardware 2012 Design Source Book and was completely smitten. It is actually 992 pages consisting of three publications. The Home Book’s opening letter from Chairman and Co-CEO Gary Friedman speaks to the brand’s evolution to date – Paying homage to Steve Jobs’ legacy of following one’s heart and intuition in the quest for innovation, this philosophy similarly guides Restoration Hardware and drives its creative process. “These pages are filled with examples of our vision to create an inspiring and irreverent style movement,” says Friedman. “Our new collection consists of new pieces that have been carefully curated, reimagined and composed to push the established boundaries and stimulate ideas of a new and evolving way to furnish our homes.”

Of course I was drawn to their new Deconstructed Furniture Line~The collection consists of 16 reproductions featuring distressed walnut frames, exposed hardware, and rich burlap and antiqued cotton upholstery secured with tailor’s tacks.

I’m sure there are many in Decorating Land that are appalled by the unfinished and unsophisticated nature of RH’s Deconstructed look because “tisk tisk” it is a reproduction attempt.  But for those of us that appreciate the “As Found Style” we get  it! Cheers to Restoration Hardware for continuing to push the design envelope.

This is a photo of a vintage chair that Shelley featured on her blog recently. The deconstructed look may not be right for everyone but I think it is a piece of textural art and fabulous.

I know a lot of people are “upset” at the new direction RH has gone but I for one LOVE IT! Depending on where you live, antique pieces are not always an otpion and even when they are finding an upholster can be quite the task. So, I’m quite happy I can buy reprouduction pieces and not have to worry about an old spring poking me in the @ss!!!! I’m not sure I would do a whole room with deconstructed pieces but I think one piece in a room would be so divine :o )

Canon 85mm 1.2 Lens Crush

Well I did it! I finally purchased the lens I’ve been crushing on for the last several months-the Canon 85mm 1.2. It arrived last week and I’m already smitten with the image quality and buttery bokeh this baby produces. Here is a sample of one of the first images I took with it attached to my 5D MK2~

Baseball Cuff’s by Meloney Russell of The Seedbox Antiques

The lens is super heavy and because of the narrow depth of field has a steep learning curve. But I can already see why it is one of the best portrait prime lenses Canon makes. I have several upcoming photography jobs and can’t wait to try it out in my work.

Thank You for letting me know your favorite Flea Markets from the last post~I’m looking forward to checking out some of the ones I’ve never visited:)

Oh, lucky you. I’ve had my eye on that lens for the last few months. I’m right on the edge of the cliff, almost ready to take the plunge-lol. Love this photo and it makes me want the lens even more.

Popped by from Sadie Olive to see your blog design. Everything is a pleasure to browse.

Hi Carol,
I love the Lucketts Spring Market in Lucketts, Virginia. It is held every May, this year it is the 19th and 20th. Vendors come from all over the country. Awesome finds. I believe their Design House is open at the same time which is always a treat as well. I know it is quite a trip from Missouri…..check out their website at luckettstore.com

Sweet E And Dreams Do Come True

I absolutely LOVE when my friends do something that is so creative and wonderful it makes your heart sing. Such is the case with Sweet E (Elizabeth Maxson) who recently completed the photography and styling for the Tula Pink Quilt Book. When I saw the book photos, I knew without a doubt that it was Elizabeth’s work. The attention to detail styling combined with effortless layering of props not to mention gorgeous image capture is Sweet E to a Tee! Take my word and go see for yourself:)

Thank You Sweet Elizabeth! Hugs, Carol

Like many of you, I enjoy sharing inspiration through blogging, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. Starting this year, I’m adding video blogging or “vlogging” to the list of ways I can better connect with you. I know the video blogging format is not new but I’ve never really got into the whole Youtube craze until just recently. Man have I been missing a ton of cool stuff! But honestly most of my Youtube searches are things like, “Middle Age Beauty Tips” or “Belly Buster Exercises.” It hit me that you all might like to see an occasional video on antiquing, crafting, decorating, photography and the shop. Trust me, no belly busting tips:)

To start, I’ve put together a short slide video to music (believe it or not) with a few decorating ideas called Simply Raised In Cotton. I know I still have lots to learn but hopefully you will enjoy it and any future ones I attempt. Please let me know what you think.

Blessings, Carol
